While lockdown still prohibits us from holidaying beyond our own four walls, there’s nothing to stop us dreaming about the incredible places we’ll travel to once it’s safe to do so – and lots of people across the globe have been using Airbnb to do just that.
And they have excellent taste.
The global renting platform has today unveiled a list of the 10 most wish-listed properties on the site between March 11 and May 4. Every one of them is a gem.
The lust-list of luxury lettings includes an exotic villa in Bali nestled amid mango trees that affords guests stunning 180-degree sea views, a Brazilian nugget of a home with a private beach and a ‘cave house’ in Santorini, Greece.
There’s also a cosy hobbit-hole-home in Washington State, a swanky pad with a pool in Los Angeles for that movie-star vibe and a jaw-dropping apartment set in a breathtaking Icelandic landscape – perfect for gazing upon the Northern Lights.

10. Riad in Marrakesh, Morocco
This stunning riad – a large traditional house built around a central courtyard – has three bedrooms. One reviewer, ‘Vicky’, described it as a ‘little oasis of calm amongst the buzz of Marrakesh’. It costs 85 euros (£75, $93) a night for the suite and 57 euros a night (£50, $62)
9. Cave house in Oia, Santorini, Greece
The listing for this Aegean gem says: ‘This spacious, unparalleled cave house, hanging on the cliffs of the caldera in the centre of Oia, is part of a traditional complex of cave houses, owned and renovated by a family of architects.’ Sold? Thought so. It costs around £600 a night and sleeps four in two bedrooms
8. Modern apartment with an amazing view – Iceland
Book this incredible modern apartment in Iceland and ‘you can gaze upon the Northern Lights during winter or bask in the midnight sun in the summer months before climbing into bed’ says Airbnb. The sleek abode is located near Akureyri, the capital of north Iceland and sleeps four. It costs around £120 a night
7. Private pool house with amazing views, Los Angeles
Crash on the queen bed with the air conditioner on high after spending the day by the pool soaking up the California sun. This Los Angeles home’s high ceilings, modern flair and tranquility will have you living like a movie star for the weekend, says Airbnb. It sleeps three and costs about £145 ($177) a night
6. Balian treehouse with beautiful pool, Bali
Sleep in the treehouse of your childhood dreams, with the beach just a three-minute walk away. This beauty in Bali sleeps two for around £75 ($92) a night
5. ‘Underground hygge’ in Orondo, Washington State
A homely hobbit home in Washington State. The listing says: ‘This inspired dwelling nestled right into the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge mountainside… will entrance your imagination and inspire an unforgettable journey. Every nook of this little habitation will warm your soul. Up the pathway, tucked into the earth, an unbelievable adventure awaits!’. It sleeps two and costs around $400 a night (£327)
4. Eco bamboo home – Bali
Kick back in a hidden riverside eco-retreat in an enchanting landscape dominated by the awe-inspiring Agung volcano, you deserve it. This hideout sleeps two and costs £125 ($151) a night. Balinese village life awaits
3. ‘Hector Cave House‘ – Santorini, Greece
Plunge pool? Check. Views you’ll never forget? Check. Paradise then? Yes. Welcome to the first podium-ranked wish-listed abode. It sleeps five and costs around £520 ($640) a night
2. Private beach property, Santa Catarina, Brazil
The listing for this property, No2 on the list, says: ‘The house has a panoramic sea view and a view and direct access to the main beach of the property. Access to the garden and the sea are immediate.’ Tempted? Sleeps eight and only costs just £43 ($52) per person per night
1. A private pool villa with a 180-degree view, Bali
Behold the most wish-listed property since lockdown began on Airbnb. One reviewer, David, said: ‘What a location! We stayed for four nights here and it is breathtaking.’ Another, Harriet, said that the villa has ‘the most incredible view in Bali’. It sleeps eight and costs just £81 ($99) a night
