A huge crowd has flouted lockdown rules to watch a brutal ‘organised’ street fight which was streamed on Facebook Live.

Dozens of spectators screamed and shouted as two men, wearing boxing gloves, brawled near the Crockets Hotel in Walker, Newcastle.

One of the thugs smashed the other to the ground and the crowd, made up of at least 30 youngsters, surged forward to celebrate and hug him.

The group had even set up stands out of an old lorry and van as others filled into the area in their cars.

Northumbria Police received multiple calls about the fight, which was slammed by locals who branded those involved ‘idiots’ for ignoring social distancing rules.

One witness told the Chronicle: ‘I can’t see my family or friends, yet some people think they are invincible battering each other in car parks.’

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: ‘We received reports that a an organised fight had been arranged at a premises on Mitchell Street, Newcastle, on Friday, May 15.

‘Officers attended and on arrival, a number of those present dispersed without issue and neighbourhood policing teams remained in the area to carry out patrols.’

But footage of livestream for the fight was still accessible on Facebook, with more than 4,500 people having seen the clip.

It comes after a number of stories related to people breaking lockdown rules as the weather started to turn warmer.

Revellers enjoying a 24th birthday party in Manchester sparked outrage after they were filmed drinking, dancing and inhaling balloons.

At least 20 people were thought to have attended a party in the back garden on Saturday night, despite the public being told not to visit other people’s homes.

Sharing the video on Twitter, one shocked viewer wrote: ‘I actually can’t believe what I’m seeing how are people doing this AND posting it all over social media like it’s fine,’ adding: ‘Honestly speechless.’
