Kumail Nanjiani sings Eternal Flame while in a plank on new episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show as part of a challenge to raise money for charity

He’s gotten ripped for his upcoming role in superhero movie The Eternals, and he’s not afraid to use his newfound brawn for a good cause.

Kumail Nanjiani was a remote guest on the latest episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to air on Monday, in which he agreed to sing a popular song while holding a plank position as part of Ellen’s #PlankThatSong’ challenge.

The Big Sick star, 42, was all smiles both as he chatted with the daytime host and while in the forearm stand, which showed his rippling arm muscles.

For a great cause: Kumail Nanjiani was a remote guest on the latest episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to air on Monday, in which he agreed to sing a popular song while holding a plank position as part of Ellen’s #PlankThatSong’ challenge

Kumail’s song of choice for the challenge was 80s hit Eternal Flame by The Bangles, which he breezily sang to the best of his abilities.

In the process, he raised $10,000 for the charity of his choice, courtesy of Shutterfly: The Center for Disaster Philanthropy.

Nanjiani was also on the show to talk about his new film Lovebirds, opposite Insecure star Issa Rae, which was supposed to be released in theaters last month but was relegated to an online streaming release amid the coronavirus pandemic.

DeGeneres said she loved Kumail in the caper film, and asked him what he thought about filming in her hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana, to which he responded that he was surprised by how much partying and parades went on around the time of Mardi Gras.

‘It’s like that even not during Mardi Gras,’ Ellen informed him cheekily. ‘New Orleans is quite a city.’

Kumail, meanwhile, had more to say about physical fitness, which is unsurprising ever since the Karachi, Pakistan-born comedic actor got cast in upcoming Marvel film The Eternals and had to get buff for the shoot.

On the show, Nanjiani shared with Ellen that he’s maintaining his workouts as if his ‘sanity depends on it,’ and also revealed that he wants to work out with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson when quarantine ends.

Up until Kumail’s casting in the Eternals film opposite Angelina Jolie, the Oscar-nominated writer and actor was primarily known for his funny, geeky role as Dinesh on Silicon Valley, along with his acclaimed autobiographical film The Big Sick.

The Eternals, currently in post production, looks like it completed filming before the coronavirus pandemic hit and is currently slated for a February 2021 release.
