Kathryn Dennis of Southern Charm responds to claims she is racist

Kathryn Dennis has broken her silence about a rumour some claim she started.

There has been talk Southern Charm star Cameran Eubanks’ husband Jason Wimberly had an affair with makeup artist Rebecca Leigh Wash. And many have said it was Dennis who cooked up the rumour to drive up ratings.

But Kathryn said on Sunday that is not the case. ‘I’ve been quiet since all this started and told not to post anything but I can’t stand it anymore,’ she wrote on her Instagram Stories as she first addressed claims she was racist for sending a Charleston black activist Tamika Gadsden a monkey emoji among several Instagram direct messages.

Not me: Kathryn Dennis has broken her silence about a rumour some claim she started. On Sunday the star said she never spread the rumour that Cameran Eubanks’ husband Jason Wimberly had an affair with makeup artist Rebecca Leigh Wash

She said: ‘I use that emoji all the time bc it looks silly and awkward and that’s my baseline. The account was anonymous I didn’t even know who I was messaging????’

‘Y’all have to know that this whole thing has been blown out of context. I’m freakin heartbroken and SO depressed because of the way I’m being portrayed is totally not true!!!’ she added.

‘And it’s not fair. And I see now that I’m back on IG that some*** people are thrilled to use this situations to come up on their own. Use for their own benefit. But I’m not gonna let that happen. Never have never will.’

And she had to respond because she ‘cannot stand my character being annihilated. Please just be patient and know this s**t is just not true.’

She added she will make a statement on Monday.

Her defense: 'Y’all have to know that this whole thing has been blown out of context. I’m freakin heartbroken and SO depressed because of the way I’m being portrayed is totally not true!!!' she added

Cameron, who is leaving the show, also spoke out.

‘I was going to make a kind statement about why I decided to leave the show…however it has come to my attention that insidious rumors are now spreading and fake articles being written…some of which pertain to my marriage,’ she said on  Instagram.

‘What upsets me the most is that my husband, who is the most sincere and faithful human I know is being falsely dragged into this. It disgusts me.’

Wash denied the affair and said ‘the allegations that this rumor was started by Kathryn Dennis are even more hurtful. To suggest that I am somehow associated with these allegations is dumbfounding, hurtful, and malicious.

‘I have been wrongfully accused of having a relationship with the husband of Cameran Wimberly of Southern Charm,’ Wash said. ‘I have never met Jason or Cameran Wimberly in my life.’

Wash said that she’s been shaken to her core amid the controversy, noting that she has no affiliation with the show – except for her zip code.

‘I am not a religious follower of Southern Charm, but as a makeup artist and resident of the Charleston area, it is impossible to not know who the cast of the show is,’ she said. ‘I have never laid eyes or interacted with Jason Wimberly, Cameran, or anyone in their beautiful family other than on television.’

Wash said she has made acquaintance with Dennis – in a ‘limited interaction in a professional capacity’ – who has been linked to being the source of the rumor.

‘The allegations that this rumor was started by Kathryn Dennis are even more hurtful,’ Wash said. ‘I met Kathryn one time in July 2018 when I did her makeup for a photo shoot for a local clothing store. I have not seen or spoken to Kathryn since.

‘To suggest that I am somehow associated with these allegations is dumbfounding, hurtful, and malicious. I am so sorry to the Wimberly family that someone would cut so low as to attack the core tenant of anyone’s life – their family.’

In response to Wash’s post, Eubanks said in a repost the makeup artist ‘is the victim here’ and undeserving of the attention she’s received.

‘It is so sad that this kind, beautiful and innocent girl had to be drug into the mud,’ Eubanks said. ‘I signed up for this by being on TV. She didn’t. @RebeccaWash is the victim here.’

Response: In her own Instagram post, Wimberly said the rumor was developed as a ratings ploy

In her own post, Cameron said that the rumour was a ruse to drum up controversy and ratings.

The show’s Naomie Olindo also reposted Wash’s post, saying ‘it’s s*** like this’ that’s the reason she, Eubanks and Chelsea Meissner left the Bravo series. She added at her former costar, ‘Shame on you @kathryndennis for this and MANY other things.’

The show’s seventh season, featuring Austen Kroll, Craig Conover, Shep Rose, Madison LeCroy and Danni Baird, has suspended production amid differing shutdown conditions nationwide in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
