Rebecca Romijn, Anson Mount, Ethan Peck announce new series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

They became fan favorites on the groundbreaking reboot Star Trek: Discovery, and they’ll be donning their Enterprise uniforms once again for a new series all their own.

On Friday, actors Ethan Peck, Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn announced Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a new series pickup by CBS All Access which will follow their characters Spock, Captain Pike and Number One in their own spinoff.

The news comes after the Star Trek franchise’s notoriously strong-willed fanbase lobbied for more from the characters, and the new show will mark CBS All Access’s third foray into the universe after Discovery and the Patrick Stewart-led Star Trek: Picard.

Trekking on their own: On Friday, actors Ethan Peck, Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn announced Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a new series pickup by CBS All Access

The announcement was made via a YouTube video that featured the trio of actors separately amid the coronavirus pandemic, as they also shared their excitement with concurrent social media posts.

‘It’s happening…’ Romijn, 47, captioned a still of the actors in their Star Trek garb, on the ‘bridge’ of the Enterprise on Friday.

And Peck, the 34-year-old grandson of screen legend Gregory Peck and latest actor to portray the celebrated Spock, wrote next to the video announcement: ‘To say that I am excited, fortunate, and grateful beyond belief would be an understatement.’

He added the hashtags #StrangeNewWorlds #StarTrek to his post as well.

Mount, 47, was also enthusiastic, writing: ‘ I can’t believe it’s actually happening. Thank you to all the fans who made this happen.’

Strange New Worlds, also a prequel series, will take Spock, Pike and Number One along with their spaceship the U.S.S. Enterprise almost up to the era of Captain Kirk, immortalized by William Shatner in the franchise’s seminal series and films.

‘This is a dream come true, literally,’ Star Trek: Picard finale director Akiva Goldsman said today of Strange New Worlds, according to Deadline. ‘I have imagined myself on the bridge of the Enterprise since the early 1970s.’

‘Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek Discovery last season,’ executive vice president and CBS All Access’ head of programming Julie McNamara also said Friday.

‘This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek.’

Confirmation on a production or delivery date for the new series is, at present, hard to come by, as most if not all of television and film production throughout Hollywood and beyond is still currently on lockdown amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
