The heat is (back) on! After last weekend’s sizzler was replaced by chilly winds, now we are set for a 70F scorcher as hot as Spain

  • It means the UK could be as hot as Spain’s Costa Blanca region this weekend 

Parts of the UK are set to be as warm as Spain’s Costa Blanca with temperatures of up to 21C (70F) this weekend, forecasters said yesterday.

Sunny conditions are predicted to continue over the next fortnight and may last into June. 

The upbeat forecast comes as a relaxation of lockdown rules means Britons can now spend unlimited time outdoors, sunbathe and travel to beaches and beauty spots.

Matthew Box, of the Met Office, said: ‘Parts of the South could see temperatures hit 20C (68F) or 21C (70F) in the South East on Saturday and, more likely, Sunday.’

The forecast for Alicante on the Costa Blanca is for a maximum 21C on Saturday while Barcelona is only expected to reach 20C (68F).

Forecasters said UK temperatures are set to rise through today and tomorrow with up to 17C (63F) in the South.

The Midlands and North are expected to reach up to 16C (61F). 

It follows a chilly start to this week, with overnight frosts and daytime temperatures as low as 7-8C (45-46F).

In its longer range forecast, the Met Office said: ‘Temperatures look to take an upward trend over the next two weeks with most areas becoming warm, especially in the South and East.’ 

It added that fine conditions are set to continue into the first ten days of June, with ‘temperatures generally trending on the warmer side’.
