Reckless driver shoots through a red light to avoid police

Heart-stopping moment reckless driver being chased by police races through red light and misses passing motorist by INCHES

  • Colin Gregory, 73, was sitting at a set of traffic lights on the Isle of Wight

  • His car was almost hit by a silver Nissan which was being chased by police 
  • Hampshire Police said they are still looking for the suspect who failed to stop 

A suspected criminal being chased by cops narrowly avoided smashing into another car during a high speed police pursuit which was caught on dashcam footage.

Pensioner Colin Gregory recorded the incident as he sat at a red light.

His granddaughter Cathy Skinner said she believed the driver had no tax or insurance.

Mr Gregory was in his car with their Shih Tzu called Pixie when the silver Nissan zoomed up behind him.

It then narrowly missed a blue Ford Focus as it went over the crossroads in Brading, Isle of Wight at 11.50am yesterday.

But the Nissan managed to evade police who were pursuing it.

Ms Skinner, 22, said: ‘He was in shock.

‘But I am just relieved that nothing else happened.

‘The Nissan had been tailgating him.’

Ms Skinner posted the video online and it has been viewed over 60,000 times.

She said: ‘Sharing for awareness on the island to keep an eye out as this car managed to get away.

‘It has no tax, no insurance, so finding the driver will be difficult.

‘My heart dropped watching this If this was a second later it would of been absolutely devastating

‘Driver of the blue car has been found and contacted and applauded for their reaction time.

‘Caught on my grandad’s dash cam.’

The occupants of the Fiesta were shaken but unhurt. 

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: ‘Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Morton Road, Sandown, at approximately 11.50 on May 12.

‘The vehicle made off from police and there was a pursuit, however the vehicle evaded officers and was lost.’
