MasterChef Australia’s Simon Toohey left mortified after claiming that ducks come from ‘pancake’

Did you notice the MasterChef fail? Contestant left mortified after VERY embarrassing taste test challenge gaffe

MasterChef Australia’s Simon Toohey was left red-faced on Sunday night after fans noticed he made an embarrassing error during the episode’s taste test challenge.

The fast-paced challenge saw contestants attempt to name popular takeaway dishes as well as their country of origin.

Each chef was given a whiteboard with clearly-marked sections labelled ‘dish’ and ‘country of origin’.

Most of the contestants managed to correctly identify popular items such as Italian pizza and Vietnamese beef pho.

However, at one stage Simon momentarily crumbled under the pressure and accidentally wrote that duck’s country of origin was ‘pancake’.

Luckily, Simon managed to scribble out his answer and re-write the words ‘duck pancake’ and ‘china’, before it was time to show his answer to the judges.

Simon, a professional cocktail barman with a Masters in Gastronomy, addressed the gaffe on his Instagram page after the episode aired on Sunday night.

‘We need to discuss the elephant/pancake in the room’, he mused, uploading a screen-grab of the embarrassing moment.

‘Obviously [I] corrected this answer promptly after this shot… as last time I checked ‘pancake’ isn’t a country,’ Simon wrote.

‘But if it is… where? And can I come?’ he joked.

Joining in on the joke, fellow MasterChef Australia star Steph de Sousa commented under his post: ‘I’m coming with [laughing/crying emoji]’.

‘It’s like morning breakfast at yours. EVERY DAY!!” Simon responded.
