Holly Willoughby blasts man for coronavirus lockdown breach

‘He really, really shouldn’t have done that’: Holly Willoughby blasts ‘stupid’ man after he visited his wife’s elderly mother, 74, during lockdown

Holly Willoughby blasted a ‘stupid’ man for visiting his wife’s 74-year-old mother during the coronavirus lockdown on Tuesday’s This Morning.

An upset caller named Maggie called into the show to seek advice from Holly and Philip Schofield after her partner ‘put her mum’s life in danger’.

The Government has stressed the over-70s are in a very high risk category and they must avoid all social contact.

Angry: Holly Willoughby spoke with an upset viewer who was ‘furious’ that her husband had visited her elderly mother

The caller said: ‘I ordered a parcel for my mum. My partner is going in to work and he said he’d drop it off for her.

‘He got back yesterday and I understand that Mum invited him in.

‘He went in and sat in the lounge with her for half an hour. I’m so cross and upset that he’s put my mum’s life in danger. I might be overreacting.’

But Holly agreed with the viewer, saying the husband should not have been so reckless.

She said: ‘I don’t think you are overreacting, actually’ before saying it was a ‘stupid thing to do’.

The 39-year-old added: ‘He really, really shouldn’t have done that. The only thing you can take from this is that his intention was to do a good thing.

‘But you’re absolutely right, it was a stupid thing to do and the situation we find ourselves at the moment he shouldn’t have done it.’

Holly then advised Maggie how she should explain her frustration to her husband.

She said: ‘I know, what you’ve just got to say is: “Look, the reason I feel this angry is because I’m scared. I’m scared for her, she’s 74, she’s on her own.

‘”All I want to do is give her a hug but I’m scared she’s going to catch this and in her age bracket this is a dangerous situation for her to be in, so I’m angry with you because it comes from fear.”‘

Phillip then added: ‘You’ve just got to hope for the best on this one. Fingers crossed, fingers crossed you’re going to be fine.

‘Remember the briefing yesterday? The Government advisers saying that even at 74, even if she were to get it there is no guarantee it would cause her major issues.

‘There are many people who are older who come through this perfectly OK.’

Philip then gave her some advice on how she should deal with the situation, saying: ‘Shout at him and then you’re going to have to move on.’
