Outlander season 5: Major character to return from the dead | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Great Big Lockdown Survey: Tell us what life’s like for you by answering THESE questions

The latest instalment of Starz series Outlander saw Stephen Bonnet (played by Ed Speelers) kidnap Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) and reveal his plan to start a family with their son Jemmy at River Run. When Brianna refused to comply, Bonnet decided to try and sell her but fortunately, his plan failed and he was caught by Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin). Bonnet was then set to be killed by drowning to pay for his crimes but Brianna shot him in the head in a mercy killing. But is this really the end of Bonnet?

Well, it looks as though Bonnet is pretty dead following Brianna’s unexpected move.

However, actor Ed hinted he could make a return to the popular series in a flashback or another storyline.

He explained: “Outlander, as the producers have joked with me, has quite the record of doing flashbacks, and of bringing people back. So, never say never.

“I would love to work with these people again in some capacity, whether it be on this, or on something else, who knows.”

The actor added to Town & Country: “I think it’d be pretty hard to find a way back in unless it is a flashback, but I don’t know anything. I’m none the wiser.”

Bonnet’s death came as quite a surprise to many fans of the show and the books by Diana Gabaldon it is based on as his storyline was moved forward and changed slightly.

Speaking on the change to his storyline, Ed admitted he was “upset” as he “would’ve liked to have played out more of the things that were in the books”.

However, he understood the decisions that bosses had made about his character and what it meant for the series.

Fans were given an insight into Bonnet’s life before he met the Frasers for the first time last week as he opened up to Brianna about his childhood.

Bonnet also revealed he was terrified of drowning and the sea, which was unfortunate given how he was sentenced to death.

Reflecting on his character’s upbringing, Ed remarked: “He was treated quite poorly as a child. They bound him, and then he was buried alive, essentially.

“And I wonder if that triggered something with drowning. Imagine being buried alive.”

With Bonnet now out of the Frasers lives, the family will be hoping to get back to normal.

However life is never peaceful for the family for long and there seems to be a lot more drama in store.

The latest trailer hints Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) will have to prepare for war as he rushes to light the cross that acts as a call to his men to prepare for battle.

But who are the fighting and will the Frasers make it out alive?

Outlander airs Sunday on Starz in the US and drops Monday on Amazon Prime in the UK.
