Love Island’s Callum Jones on Shaughna Phillips backlash and proving doubters wrong

Callum Jones had a rollercoaster time of it in the Love Island villa, dumping Shaughna Phillips for Molly Smith in a savage Casa Amor twist.

Since leaving South Africa, the lovebirds have been inseparable, and took their relationship up several notches as they decided to lockdown together.

Despite facing waves of backlash for his actions – and the odd slogan T-shirt – the 23-year-old has absolutely no regrets.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk, he revealed that he’s thrilled to be proving their haters wrong.

‘I knew I was going to get a bit of backlash for it,’ he told us. ‘But everyone’s got an opinion so it doesn’t really bother me, to be honest.

‘Obviously we’ve seen a few comments like, “Oh you’re not gonna last long!” But we’re still strong, and still enjoying each other.’

Callum also explained that he managed to sort things out with Shaughna, and they are back on friendly terms.

‘Even before she left, a few days, we were still speaking like normal,’ he said.

‘It was her birthday the other day, I wished her a happy birthday and she said thanks.

‘There’s no hard feeling there, it’s just normal.’

Callum and Molly, 26, lived in the ITV2 villa for a few weeks before returning home – but quarantining together is on a completely different level.

However, the scaffolder insisted that they’ve been having a whale of a time in lockdown.

Lifting the lid on how they have been filling their days, he added: ‘Everything’s great at the moment.

‘We’ve been cooking, doing a lot of workouts together, walking the dog, baking, watching TV. Everything, pretty much.

‘It’s definitely brought us closer. Lockdown in the outside world is a lot different to life in the villa…

‘It’s very different but we’re managing.’
