ODEON Cinemas is to boycott new releases by Universal Pictures in a row over streaming.

The move means fans will not get to see the latest Fast & Furious or Jurassic World blockbusters when screens reopen.

Universal’s Trolls World Tour has made £80million since being streamed earlier this month.

Its cinema release was cancelled over Covid-19.

Yesterday, NBCUniversal boss Jeff Shell said that future movies could be streamed at the same time as cinema debuts.

He said AMC will not licence any Universal film in its 1,000 theatres around the world.

Boss Adam Aron said: “Universal is breaking the dealings between our two companies.”

It comes at a time of increasing anxiety for theatre owners, whose business model is already under threat from the rise of streaming.
