Avril Lavigne reached out to Justin Bieber after Lyme disease battle

Avril Lavigne reached out to Justin Bieber during his Lyme disease battle

Avril Lavigne has revealed she personally reached out to Justin Bieber following his Lyme disease diagnosis to offer him her support.

The 35-year-old singer wanted to share her ‘knowledge’ with Justin, after she experienced the illness back in 2015.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that is typically spread to humans by tick bites. Symptoms can include headaches, fever, fatigue and rashes.

Justin addressed his health battles in January, earlier this year, and confirmed he had recently been diagnosed with Lyme disease.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Avril said: ‘I just reached out like, “Yo, here for you if you need any advice. I can share my knowledge with you.”

Avril said that she believes Justin is a ‘warrior’ for overcoming the illness and explained her own battle with Lyme disease inspired her new music, including songs Warrior and Head Above Water.

‘They were the two first songs I wrote because I was freshly coming out of fighting Lyme disease, so naturally that was what was on my heart.’

Avril added that she’s being extra cautious during the coronavirus lockdown, after being warned that she is at higher risk of contracting Covid-19 due to having Lyme disease.

Bieber, meanwhile, addresses his experience of Lyme disease in his YouTube docu-series Seasons.

He first opened up about his diagnosis in a candid Instagram post and told fans at the beginning of the year: ‘While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like s**t, on meth etc. they failed to realise I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.

‘It’s been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP.’

Justin, who has been forced to postpone his 2020 Changes tour due to the current coronavirus pandemic, is currently isolating at home with wife Hailey Baldwin in their $8.5million Beverly Hills love nest.

And it sounds like the couple are loving having some time to themselves, with Hailey admitting she is the ‘happiest she has been in months’ during lockdown.

‘I thought I was going to have a lot of anxiety through this process and there has been some,’ she said. ‘But it’s also really shown me that the simplicity in life and kind of dialling everything back has made me so happy’.
