Jeremy Vine on Channel 5 was back discussing the biggest topics and kicking off the show was whether or not Health Secretary Matt Hancock should resign from his position should his target of 100,000 coronavirus tests a day by 31 April not be achieved. On the show, journalist Owen Jones who was on a live video link championed Hancock’s resignation, but those watching the talk show at home couldn’t disagree more and slammed his suggestion, with many fully supporting the MP and the government amid the ongoing pandemic.

Jeremy Vine viewers were furious this morning and rang into the show to tell the host exactly what they thought about Jones’ call for Hancock to resign, if, hypothetically, 100,000 coronavirus tests each day by the end of this month were not achieved.
First up was 72-year-old Jill who demanded people “stop criticising” Hancock and “get behind him and the government”.
“I support that man, I support Boris Johnson,” she added.
Another caller said Hancock was being targeted as a “scapegoat” and Pam, from Derbyshire agreed with this.
Storm Huntley introduced the caller: “She thinks we can’t criticise the government at the moment,” and Vine added: “Well Owen had a long list of stuff there Pam?”

“Well for most parts, I’m absolutely appalled as I sit and listen to this situation, I just think it’s a foolish question that Matt Hancock should resign,” she explained.
“Do you know, I can’t understand how people have not seen the tremendous effort the government has put in to support the British people.”
“But isn’t it like saying the sprinter who accidentally doesn’t start the race because he didn’t hear the starting pistol has made a tremendous effort to catch the others,” Vine combatted.
“But the fact is he didn’t start the race on time – and this was us in January/February!”
“Listen, all I can say is I believe the government has done their best, are doing their best and will continue to do their best,” Pam said.
“He has a very difficult job,” the viewer explained. “We are where we are not, it is most important for the opposition to question him and then be held accountable.”
There was a lot of discussion about this topic online as well with many expressing their own thoughts on Twitter.

“#JeremyVine No Hancock should not resign, the testing number is a target, sometimes they are met, exceeded or not achieved. Isn’t this the case with all targets,” another remarked.
Another hit out at Jones: “Oh how easy to say if we had done this or if we had done that, a typical labour type comment. I doubt very much they would have done better. Sacking people will not help. #JeremyVine.”
Someone else added: “So if we get shut of Hancock. Who would take his place? And what would they change? Answer. Nothing. #JeremyVine.”
