Sky News presenter Sarah-Jane Mee has had to change her birthing plans because of the coronavirus.

The 41-year-old newsreader has said she is now planning to have a home birth so that her fiance Ben Richardson could be with her during the process.

In an interview with Hello! magazine, Sarah-Jane – who is expecting her first child – explained: ‘I don’t want to be walking into hospital on my own to have this baby, so I am considering a home birth.

‘I have an amazing midwife and I’ve been using this incredible hypnobirthing teacher caller Katharine Graves, and they have been getting my head together.

The presenter continued: ‘I had never considered it before but, because of everything that’s going on, it makes me feel more relaxed to think about having the baby at home, rather than Ben not being able to come into the ward until the very final moment. I think my plan A now is a home birth.’

As Sarah-Jane has had an uncomplicated pregnancy and is in good health, she added there is ‘no reason’ for her not to have a home birth.

She was due to give birth in London’s St Thomas’ Hospital but her life ‘changed in a couple of minutes’ after lockdown measures meant her pregnancy put her in the ‘vulnerable category.’

Speaking on how she keeps her ‘head straight’ by going on walks, Sarah-Jane said: ‘I have been concentrating on that and it has really helped.’

She is currently on leave from her role at Sky and revealed that she didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to her colleagues.

The presenter had been dating businessman Ben Richardson – who has son Teddy from a previous relationship – for almost two years and announced her engagement in January this year.

She told Hello!: ‘There is no one else I would rather spend time with. It’s so nice to rush home from work because you want to get home to see someone and I have never felt that. It’s amazing.

‘We are best friends… and everything else.’
