Bardot deny former manager’s claims that the group split after ‘explosive’ backstage bust-up

Bardot’s former manager David Caplice has claimed that the group split following an ‘explosive’ backstage bust-up before their Mardi Gras performance in 2002.

Speaking to news.com.au on Saturday, David, who became the group’s manage just after they hit number one with their single Poison, said things had become ‘adversarial’.

‘I remember the girls became very adversarial to each other towards the end, when envy and infighting was out of control.

‘It wasn’t that particular performance that heralded the end for me – it was the blow-up backstage at the Mardi Gras prior to their 2am headline performance that really shocked everybody.

‘That explosive encounter was the death blow for the band,’ he insisted, adding sadly that, ‘Bardot been the biggest girl band in the world’.

However, the band have denied the blowup occurred, telling the paper in a statement that the claim was ‘not true’.

It comes after member Tiffani Wood has revealed that pop band Bardot were very close to organising a reunion – when it all went south.

The 42-year-old told this week’s Stellar that members Katie Underwood, 44, Sally Polihronas, 43, and Belinda Chapple, 45, got together on a four way call and discussed it – but Sophie Monk, 40, did not take part.

‘We all got on [a call], except for Sophie, and had a chat. It went so well that we were close to doing something, but old wounds opened up and people’s lives are busy,’ Tiffani explained.

Sophie has been reluctant to rejoin the girl group, which was active just two years, between 2000 and 2002.

Tiffani went on: ‘I’ve heard Sophie say ‘never say never’, but she’s never said yes – or maybe she’s said no every time, which is fair enough. She’s doing her own thing. But we all have our own reasons, and it’s not going ahead.’

A reunion is not out of the question, Tiffani says, but it will be, ‘Maybe when we’re 50 [and] we can give it another shot,’ she said.
