Soon after sharing her fearful admission to her followers alongside a selfie with her dog, friends and fans of the BBC presenter said they would have reacted in the same way.

This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford, 60, and Eamonn Holmes, 60, rushed to comment laughing faces and spider emojis, while one fan wrote: “Oh jeez.

“Oooh my heavens I would died on the spot.”

Another wrote to Lucy: “I would have done the same, I hate spiders!”

Speaking to The Irish News, the host said: “Yeah, it’s funny, it’s exactly like Homes Under The Hammer.

“When I first started that, we were scratching around for properties, and then ahead of the second, people would actually come up to you!”
