KIRK Douglas’ widow, Anne Buydens, celebrated her 101st birthday and her family was right there to celebrate while practicing social distance.
Her loved ones celebrated her while doing a socially-distancing car procession as she watched from her sidewalk.
Anne was, unfortunately, one of those people who had to celebrate her birthday amid the coronavirus pandemic.
And despite calls for social distancing, her family and friends made sure she knew how much she was loved as they drove by her home and wished her a happy birthday.
Even her grandson, Cameron Douglas, was there for his grandmother.
Cameron took to Instagram to share a series of Instagram stories as he waited in a line of cars to see his grandmother.
In one of the first stories, he said to his followers: “Here we are, coming to Anne’s 101st birthday.
“First birthday without Pappy. Now we’re going to stay with it as we go through this amazing procession.”
A couple of minutes later, he shared another update: “Now, we’ve been in line for about 20 or 30 minutes.
“I’d wait 20 or 30 hours to say happy birthday to Anne and here we go.”
Once he made it to the front of the line, he greeted those near Anne – who were safely wearing masks and gloves – and handed them a bouquet of flowers.
He told them: “Hello, hello, hello! We got some flowers for Anne.”
The birthday girl sat under the shade of the trees in her wheelchair with her loyal canine friend by her side.
She was wearing a purple outfit with balloons attached to the wheelchair.
Cameron also posted a sweet photo of Anne and Kirk on his Instagram and wished her a happy birthday.
He wrote alongside the photo: “Happy Birthday Oma.
“Here’s to 101 years of Love, Light and Guidance! We Love you!”
The 41-year-old wasn’t the only one who celebrated Anne’s birthday on social media.
Carys Douglas – Michael Douglass and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ daughter – also shared an amazing throwback of Anne and Kirk back in the day.
She wrote: “Happy 101st birthday to my wonderful Oma!! Your beauty, intellect and grace is my inspiration.”
Catherine also shared a photo of her and Anne and wrote on her Instagram: “Happy Birthday to my extraordinary stepmother in Law.
“Our Queen, our Oma. You personify everything that is good in a woman. I admire you and love you so very much. 101 years young today.
“Anne Douglas thank you for everything that you have done for people in our world.”
This is Anne’s first birthday without her late husband, Kirk.
The actor passed away on February 5 at the age of 103.
His death was announced by his movie star son Michael Douglas.
A statement shared on Instagram by Michael read: “It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103.
“To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.
“But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great-grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband.”
Michael, 75, continued: “Kirk’s life was well-lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet.
“Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true.
“Dad – I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son.”
Douglas was one of the last surviving stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age and had a total of 92 acting credits – including in 75 movies – under his belt.
