The siblings from Leeds provoked backlash from fans as they sat down to watch the likes of Netflix’s new reality show Too Hot To Handle and the Global Citizens Concert.

One enraged viewer said: “Another week passes where I haven’t seen my family, yet Ellie still pops round to Izzi’s on #Gogglebox .”

And one more remarked: “Very confused how Ellie and Izzy are filming together? They don’t live in the same house”

After the Twitter storm, Gogglebox bosses are now having to deal with complaints from the broadcast regulator.

Ofcom told The Sun Online after last week’s show that they received 163 complaints.

The pair were sitting the regulation two metres apart required under social distancing rules.

However, many viewers said thet shouldn’t be in each other’s homes amid the coronavirus lockdown, with some branding Channel 4 “irresponsible” for airing the scenes.

Fans were expecting to see Ellie’s boyfriend Nat, who had previously taken Izzi’s place during the lockdown, but were shocked to see her back in the house instead.

One tweeted: “Ellie’s boyfriend was stepping in for Izzi. So how come she’s now back and mixing households? God what I would give to see my family!!”

A second wrote “So wait… izzi and ellie have completely broken lockdown rules and moved back in with each other??? how is that allowed?”

Another said: “I’m proper confused… They replaced Izzi with Ellie’s bf cos they weren’t isolating together, but now they’re back filming together?? Yet C4 said at the beginning that the cast is adhering to social distancing 🤷🏼‍♀️ clearly not huns.”

One other fumed: “So it’s alright for Ellie and Izzi to sit and watch telly together on #Gogglebox even though they don’t live in the same house?? Surprised @Channel4 are showing this blatant defying of government rules.”

The pair joked about the coronavirus crisis on the show last night, with Ellie asking: “What are we going to do when we have to go back to work?”

Her sister replied: “I’m not, I’ve decided. I’m going to have to have another baby and have more maternity leave because coronavirus has s**t all over this one.”

A spokesperson for the show told The Sun Online earlier this week: “Most of the families live together but where they don’t, they are complying with PHE [Public Health England] social distancing guidelines.

“Gogglebox will only film with families where it’s safe to do so. The health and safety of our cast and crew is paramount.”

Under government social distancing rules, Brits are banned from going to see members of their family if they live in different homes.

Official advice from Public Health England insists: “Avoid gatherings with friends and family. Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media.”

Meanwhile, famous Gogglebox family Jonathan Tapper was left fighting for his life after contracting the deadly coronavirus.

The reality TV star, 52, who has diabetes, was left “heaving with every breath” as his distraught family, who also caught Covid-19, anxiously watched by his bedside.

Speaking to the Daily Star, his wife Nikki, 47, said: “One night Jonathan came home from work and was unable to move.

“He had a cough and high temperature. He laid down on the sofa and – with no exaggeration – he stayed there for two weeks in our lounge room.”

Doctors told the family to keep Jonathan at home and he was attached to an oxygen monitor.

A spokesman for the family said: “I can confirm that the Tapper family all contracted Covid-19. We are really pleased to say the family are better – Jonathan is at the very end of his recovery and is now taking it easy.”
