“You keep saying it’s not for you and it is for those you regard as heroes working in the NHS. Well, I have something which is for you,” Carol said as she held the award in her hands.
“This will be your Pride of Britain award sent with all of our love Tom, from everyone who’s nominated you and I’m absolutely sure from everybody in the country.”
As Captain Tom sat speechless at his home, the former Countdown star said she would give him the award in person at the ceremony later this year.
“It will be a very special one,” she added, as the presenter continued to fight back the overwhelming emotion she was feeling.
