Fred the Godson has died aged 35 after contracting the coronavirus. The rapper was admitted to hospital in New York hospital with the virus two weeks ago.

Jaquae confirmed the news of his friend’s death in a touching tribute on Instagram this evening.

He shared the rapper’s final Instagram picture of him in hospital with the caption: “Sleep in peace my brother.

“You’ll never be forgotten. LOVE U MAN. I have so much things to say but I’m lost right now.”

Fred The Godson, also known as Gordo, shared a picture of him from his hospital bed on April 6.

In view of his 257,000 followers, he wrote: “I’m in here wit this Corvus 19 s**t! Please keep me in y’all prayers!!!! #godisgreat.”

Many of the stars fans and fellow musicians have flocked to Twitter to pay tribute to him this evening.

Singer Kemba tweeted: “RIP Fred The Godson man. F**k. When I was growing up in Hunts Point, he would pull up like a superstar.

“Everyone thought he was the best. I was trying to be as good as he was. Him and my older brother friends.

“I was the little homie. This s**t hurts.

Crooks Corner also wrote: “Today is a sad one.. My guy Fred.. I thank God I was able to spend a few days in the lab with him in February hangin out… talkin music and life with our brother Joell.

“Fred The Godson rest in poetry, power and paradise.”

The rapper made his breakthrough in 2010 with his mixtape titled Armageddon.

The mixtape featured various artists including Busta Rhymes, Cam’ron, Waka Flocka Flame and Styles P.

A year later, he released the Ganga Grillz mixtape City of God, which featured PUSHA-T, Diddy and Meek Mill.

Back in 2017, he discussed his aspirations to sign to a major record label and said he was almost signed to DefJam.

The rapper told hosts his deal fell through when Jay-Z left the label.

Speaking on Hot97, Sway in the Morning, he said: “I’m not saying I’m the best rapper in the world.

“I just know I’m better than a lot of the s**t that’s out now. Sometimes, you just think, ‘What the hell’s going on?’”
