Martin Clunes revealed his wife had coronavirus symptoms, but is now ‘fighting fit’ after spending time in self-isolation.

The actor, 58, discussed Philippa Braithwaite’s health while appearing on Tuesday’s edition of Good Morning Britain in his pyjamas.

Of his joy that his wife has since recovered from her symptoms, he said: ‘Me and my daughter are fine, we locked her [Philippa] away for a bit. She’s back fighting fit thank God, it was scary.

‘We had to clear the farm of the people who work here. Nothing like this has ever happened like this before.’

Talking via video link from his home in Dorset, Martin said of how things have changed in his area: ‘There’s loads more pheasants around as they’re not getting killed on the roads anymore. 

‘The streets are shut, but our butchers is still open. Our local restaurants are delivering food, everyone is doing their bit.’

When asked if Doc Martin would address coronavirus on its new season, Martin admitted that it was a ‘hard one to avoid.’

He explained: ‘I don’t know, we’ll just have to wait and see. We’re supposed to be shooting it next summer, it will be a hard one to avoid.’

Martin was disturbed by his dogs during the interview and joked that he wanted them to ‘shut up’ while he talked on the show.

Piers then asked if he was wearing pyjamas while chatting to them, and the actor admitted: ‘Yes! [laughs] this is how you’ll find me.’

The actor went on to share his thanks with Piers and Susanna Reid for ‘shining a light’ on those helping raise money for charity.

Martin is set to host the largest virtual tea party for the Guide Dogs charity, and said: ‘We’re quite good at stepping up, if you look at Live Aid and Comic Relief.

‘People with diminished sight already suffer from being partially separated from society, it’s a wonderful opportunity to donate.’
