Geri Horner has paid tribute to the Queen on her 94th birthday.

The Spice Girls star, 47, has revealed that she tries to embody the British monarch’s ‘stoic determination’ and fashion choices in her own life.

In her birthday tribute, Geri admitted that she often asks herself ‘what would the Queen do?’, especially during the challenging COVID-19 crisis.

Talking to British Vogue, she said: ‘When – like now – I feel powerless, the Queen reminds me that I can still decide to put a smile on my face, to brush my hair and put on a fabulous dress. It might sound shallow but… isn’t that the power of clothes?’

Geri added: ‘Sometimes there is ugliness in the world that we cannot control, but we can control how we respond to it. Of course, I’m human, with fears, and the occasional urge to cry out, “What about me?!”

‘But over the years I’ve learned that, when I act better than I feel, I eventually do feel better. The Queen embodies that stoic determination: she’s an icon of strength – the ultimate symbol of girl power.’

The star added that she often asks herself ‘what would the Queen do?’ and her answer is ‘act with courage and kindness’ while wearing pearls.

The star said the British monarch was ‘very encouraging’ over their performance and it ‘felt like she actually liked what we were about’.

It comes after the Royal Family released a private home video of the Queen and her younger sister Margaret to celebrate the monarch turning 94 on Tuesday.

The archive film from the Royal Collection Trust includes the princess playing with a pram as a toddler, on a seesaw and playing in a garden with her sister, and dancing on a yacht with Margaret.

Birthday wishes for the Monarch have been led by Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Charles in a strong display of unity from the Royal Family.

The Queen is marking her birthday away from her family as the coronavirus crisis continues. With the UK in lockdown and thousands dead from the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be no birthday gun salutes.

The Queen decided the celebratory display of military firepower would not be ‘appropriate’ at this time.

Usually a 21-gun salute is fired by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from either Hyde Park or Green Park, followed by a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London by the Honourable Artillery Company.

The Queen has two birthdays – the day she was born in April and her official one in June, which is celebrated with the Trooping the Colour ceremony, but this has been cancelled in its traditional form this year.

She is with her husband of 72 years, the Duke of Edinburgh, at Windsor Castle in Berkshire with a reduced household for their protection.
