Wow: FKA twigs modelled her most unique look yet as she posed in quirky facial sculptures made of recycled rubbish for an artistic new collaboration which celebrates ‘creativity beyond consumption’

FKA twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, looked stunning as she posed for a series of snaps for the issue, titled ‘Beauty of the Discarded’.

The shoot saw her come together with mixed-media artist Lyle XOX to create the exquisite and whimsical facial sculptures, with the images captured by photographer Nhu Xuan Hua.

Lyle is well-known for creating art using household objects and his latest project sees him craft eye-catching facial adornments made with recycled rubbish, giving them new life and meaning.

The sculptures also feature objects donated by Members of the AVANTgarden family, including Phoebe Waller Bridge, Christopher Kane, Courtney Love, Benny Blanco, Ed Marler, Daze Aghaji and Claire Barrow.

Among the objects modelled by FKA twigs is a burlap shopping bag mixed with bottle caps and red climbing rope.

While another sees her rock an empty egg carton and pages of a magazine.

Further images see the Cellophane singer wear pages of a book, while in another she wears a pink corset upon her head.

Speaking of the collaboration, FKA twigs said: ‘Being able to collaborate is one of the great joys of being a human.

‘If I didn’t think that before all of this, boy do I feel it now, only a month into having ideas and having nowhere to put them that feels concrete is quite painful.

‘This project is about the beauty of the discarded. It’s about how often we as humans get it wrong.

‘We’ve discarded how we’re supposed to live as humans and now we’re realising there are more simple ways to exist and that the closer we are to the earth the closer we are to the truth.’

Meanwhile, editor-in-chief of Dazed Beauty Bunny Kinney added: ‘At Dazed Beauty we believe that the future of beauty rests in its reduced environmental impact.

‘So when twigs had the idea to shoot portraits of herself modelling masks made of found materials, created by Lyle XOX, a mixed media and make up artist who she discovered on Instagram, we thought the message and methodology was spot on for today’s mood.

‘It’s about sustainability as much as it is creativity and innovation – exactly the kind of DIY craftiness that is at the heart of beauty today, as young people all around the world sit in their bedrooms and draw their dreams across their face, using whatever they can find to do it. It’s the kind of positive inspiration and dose of imagination we could all use right now.’
