‘Had me on the edge of my seat!’ MasterChef Australia fans plead with Poh Ling Yeow to not give them a ‘heart attack’ as she nearly runs out of time with her ‘gutsy’ chiffon cake

MasterChef Australia’s Poh Ling Yeow had viewers on the edge of their seat during Sunday night’s episode.

The 47-year-old made the ‘gutsy’ move to prepare a lychee strawberry chiffon cake, that usually takes several hours, in just 90 minutes.

Despite managing to impress the judges with the layered creation, fans at home exclaimed on Twitter that they nearly had a ‘heart attack’ over her sheer ambition.

‘Oh Poh, you nearly gave us a heart attack. Cake is so beautiful!’ one posted online.

‘Would really appreciate Poh not giving us severe anxiety next time,’ another said, before adding: ‘Risk equals pay off!’ 

‘God, Poh had me on the edge of my seat with her insane gutsy move of a cake!’ one viewer also wrote.

However, some found Poh’s ambitious creation thrilling viewing, with one posting: ‘Okay, watching Poh take risks is really entertaining.’ 

Earlier on in the program, Poh admitted that she set herself up for a challenge with the cake usually requiring two hours to cool.

‘I realise that everyone’s finished their cook and all eyes are on me. There’s so much pressure, especially because only 18 of us are safe and five have to go into round two.  

‘I’m using all of my 90 minutes for my lychee strawberry chiffon cake. It’s very delicate. Far out. It’s had no time to set. So I’ll have zero time for round two, which means this has to work.’ 

The odds were in her favour, with Poh managing to ice all three layers and present to the judges in just minutes.

Melissa Leong described the sweet treat as ‘light and airy’, while Andy Allen praised Poh on making a ‘technically perfect’ cake.
