Gwyneth Paltrow announces she’ll auction off her Oscars dress from 2000

Gwyneth Paltrow revealed Friday that she’ll be auctioning off the silvery Calvin Klein dress that she wore to the 72nd Academy Awards ceremony in 2000.

The 47-year-old Oscar winner made the announcement in a video posted to her Instagram.

Though she says the dress has ‘sentimental value,’ she had previously lumped it into a blog written about her worst ever looks, for her own lifestyle brand Goop.

For a good cause: Gwyneth Paltrow, 47, announced she would be donating the silver Calvin Klein dress she wore to the 2000 Oscars for Michael Rubin’s All In Challenge to fight food insecurity

Gwyneth appeared to have filmed her video in her kitchen, and she looked playful in a seersucker top with a black lace panel above her bust.

‘There are so many millions of people in this country who are deeply affected by the Covid crisis,’ Gwyneth began her video.

‘We are going to be in for a period of difficulty. We all really need to band together,’ she continued, before revealing she was donating the dress she wore to the Oscars in 2000.

‘It was a hand-beaded Calvin Klein dress. I wore it to the Oscars the year after I won,’ she remembered. ‘It’s very end-of-the-’90s, which is back in style now, so I thought it would be a good one to donate.’

The dress featured a plunging neckline and a sheer outer covering over the delicate bead work.

The Royal Tenenbaums star mostly reiterated her video statement in the caption, though she added that the dress ‘holds great sentimental value!’

But Gwyneth wasn’t always a big fan of the dress.

In 2013, she discussed some of her worst fashion moments for her Goop website, and she singled out two dresses she wore to the Academy Awards in the early 2000s.

‘Two that come to mind are looks I wore to the Oscars in 2000 and 2002. The first is the Calvin Klein,’ she said.

Not a fan: But in 2013, Gwyneth called it her second-worst Oscar look in a Goop post. 'It's an okay dress,' she said of the silver Calvin Klein look, 'but not Oscars material. I chose it because I wanted to disappear that year'

‘It’s an okay dress,’ she said of the silver Calvin Klein look, ‘but not Oscars material. I chose it because I wanted to disappear that year.’

She singled out the goth Alexander McQueen dress from 2002 as her worst look, though she blamed herself for her hairstyle, makeup and lack of a bra, rather than the dress itself.

The opening bid was set at $2,500, and the dress was quickly up to $4,100 with more than six days to go.
