Will & Grace reveals the first look at its series finale: ‘It’s harder to say goodbye this time’

The teaser for the series finale of Will & Grace was shared on Friday.

In the clip, Grace, played by Debra Messing, is seen crying over her pregnancy, and Will, played by Eric McCormack, is packing up his apartment. Jack (Sean Hayes) is getting closer to Broadway and Karen (Megan Mullally) is meeting up with an ex as they come in and out of the scenes.

A fond farewell: Will & Grace is finally coming to an end for the second time. The finale will air on April 2; the series dropped a first-look clip of the final episode’s taping on Friday

The show first aired in September of 1998, and went on to spawn a total of 11 seasons thanks to a successful reboot.

And after racking up an astonishing 91 Emmy Award nominations and 18 wins, Will & Grace is finally coming to an end on April 23.

The series, which was revived in 2017 for three more seasons after an 11-year hiatus, has an emotional second goodbye.

‘We are sitting in the set of Will & Grace during our very LAST season, and we mean it this time!’ Messing, who has played lead Grace Adler for the entire run of the show, said in an on-set interview.

Her costar Eric, who plays Will Truman, added, ‘I have a greater appreciation of how great a job this is, so in some ways it’s harder to say goodbye this time.’

The teaser clip shows excerpts of the series’ final episode and season, which sees Grace dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, Will navigating life post-breakup, Jack (Sean Hayes) negotiating bona fide Broadway dreams, and Karen (Megan Mullally) getting closure with her ex-husband.

After one take in which Will looks back on his empty apartment and closes the door, the director calls out, ‘I hate to say it: Cut!’ and everyone in the studio breaks out into applause.

Looking back on the show’s groundbreaking run, McCormack reflected, ‘We’ve done certain episodes that while they’re very much about right now, they will withstand the test of time.’

‘To be able to make people laugh and think and feel, that’s the trifecta,’ Messing also noted. ‘This is a family with a history. No question there’s going to be tears on that last night.’

The Will & Grace series finale is set to air Thursday, April 23 at 9 p.m. ET, followed by the Will & Grace retrospective special (hosted by McCormack) at 9:30 p.m. ET, both on NBC.
