‘A very sad goodbye to our little family member’: Former Australian cricket captain Steve Smith and wife Dani reveal the devastating loss of their dog
Former Australian cricket captain Steve Smith has suffered another blow – the death of his adorable pet dog Charlie.
The sports star shared the sad news on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old shared a series of sweet photographs of himself cuddling the beloved pet pooch he shares with his wife Dani Willis on Instagram.

He wrote in the caption: ‘Very sad to say goodbye to our little family member.’
‘Charlie was so loving, loyal and just an all round legend,’ he added, before signing off: ‘I miss you already little man. Rest In Peace.’
Steve’s wife Dani also shared her sadness at the couple’s loss, calling Charlie her ‘best friend’ for the past 17 years.
‘CHARLIE,’ she began, sharing love hearts around the name.

‘My best friend for 17 years. There are no words to describe the joy and laughter you brought to everyone who met you,’ she added.

The sad occasion comes after Dani and Steve farewelled a near perfect summer of cricket in January.
Taking to Instagram at the time, Dani shared a cute photo of the pair at the Sydney Cricket Ground after Australia had defeated New Zealand.

The season saw Australia score a perfect 5-0 against New Zealand.
It marks a triumphant return to cricket for Steve who resumed play mid last year after being banned for 12 months following a ball tampering scandal.
