Big Brother Australia: Daniel Gorringe tipped to be first housemate on Channel Seven reboot

Big Brother EXCLUSIVE: The first housemate from the new season has been revealed – and he’s already well known to Australian sports fans

The Big Brother Australia reboot looks to be mixing celebrities with civilians.

A source tells Daily Mail Australia that former AFL player-turned-influencer Daniel Gorringe, 27, is likely to appear on the pre-recorded Channel Seven series.

Although this is yet to be officially confirmed, a glaring Instagram error has all but given the game away to Daniel’s very attentive 72,000 followers.

Daniel failed to post a single update between February 5 and April 8. Tellingly, the entire season was filmed during this 10-week period in Sydney.

‘In the Big Brother house,’ commented one follower on his last post in February, as hundreds expressed their confusion at Daniel’s sudden lack of updates.

‘Good to be back guys,’ commented Daniel last week after the show wrapped on April 2, offering his followers no explanation to his absence.

Meanwhile, an unsuccessful applicant from the upcoming season tells Daily Mail Australia that Daniel’s appearance in the house seems guaranteed.

She claims to have met him during the application process last year, and said he ‘definitely made it through to the final round’ of auditions.

The hopeful said that Daniel ‘went on to meet with the executive producers.’

A final clue also hints that Daniel is a housemate on the upcoming reboot.

‘New rules, new players,’ a promotional teaser declared on Friday, with a sports commentator reading the word ‘players’ out loud.

This hints there is indeed set to be a sports star on the new season, with Daniel famously playing for both the Gold Coast Suns and the Carlton Blues.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out Daniel and Channel Seven for comment.

According to TV Blackbox, production was accelerated on the show after a COVID-19 scare had caused the set to be shut down for 48 hours in late March.

Production company Endemol Shine Australia then sped up the filming process so they wouldn’t have to halt shooting again, before wrapping on April 3.

Apparently there is no winner because this will be decided in a live public vote once the series goes to air. The reboot will air later this year with Sonia Kruger as host.
