Barbra Streisand calls out ‘serial liar’ Trump for his ‘unfit’ leadership during pandemic

Barbra Streisand took to Twitter on Sunday to express her rage against president Donald Trump in a series of tweets focusing on what she termed ‘his incompetence and lies’ in the face of the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic.

The two-time Oscar winner, 77, started things off on Sunday by referencing her politically-charged 2018 single Don’t Lie To Me off her album Walls, which targeted the president’s tendency to alter the truth, or sometimes sidestep it entirely.

‘I wrote a song called “Don’t Lie To Me” after Trump was elected, because he was a serial liar,’ Streisand began in the tweet. ‘Now, with more than 20,000 people dead because of his incompetence and lies, he’s proven that he can’t handle the truth.’

The Funny Girl actress added, ‘He’s unfit to lead this nation…especially in a time of crisis,’ she concluded.

On the same day, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its Covid-19 U.S. Cases statistics page to reflect the current number of confirmed cases in the country, 525,704, and the total number of confirmed deaths: 20,486.

(It is important to remember that the true number of cases and deaths, including those not confirmed by the CDC, is likely much higher.)

Soon after her first post, the Yentl star tweeted again, this time focusing on another famous aspect of Trump’s administration – his wall along the Mexico-U.S. border.

‘Trump is obsessed with wasting money on his wall. Maybe all that money should have been spent on testing, ventilators and personal protective equipment for our health care professionals. The virus doesn’t care about the wall that he falsely said Mexico was paying for,’ Barbra wrote.

Specifically, promises made by the president regarding the availability of coronavirus testing have not been kept, as seen in a scathing analysis made by NPR on Monday of Trump’s Rose Garden address exactly one month ago which outlined actions to be taken by the White House in partnership with various private-sector corporations.

Almost none of those actions have reached any state of fruition.

Barbra’s last tweet on Sunday was also targeted at the president, particularly focusing on his contentious relationship with the World Health Organization, as outlined by a Politico article to which she linked.

‘Trump doesn’t like the World Health Organization for telling him to stop politicizing this virus, so he’s threatening to defund them!

‘How sick,’ she concluded the missive.

On Monday morning, the Mirror Has Two Faces actress released another series of tweets, but these were slightly more positive and encouraging, and not as targeted in a political manner.

Still, Streisand did manage one last jab at the sitting president in one of Monday’s tweets.

‘Sadly, a lack of leadership compounds the fear and confusion we might feel. It’s always been my strong belief that our commitment to the truth is our pathway to salvation.

‘With love, Barbra,’ she signed the message.
