Sophie Ellis-Bextor turned 41 on Friday and even though she’s in lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic, she still knows how to throw a party.

The singer shared a picture of herself channelling disco ball vibes in a silver sequin jumpsuit as she posed in her kitchen with her toddler Mickey, 14 months, sitting in his highchair.

She wrote: ‘That’s right, Mickey..it’s nearly time for our third kitchen disco! See you all on insta live April 10th 6.30pm and I’ll sing and shimmy and attempt to raise your spirits with a little party to which you are invited.

‘A little BIRTHDAY party. No need to bring anything, just turn up xxxxx ps I’ve heavily edited our fridge magnets since this was taken.’

DJ Sophie has been entertaining her fans by getting behind the decks in her own home, determined to keep her spirits high amid the global crisis.

Mother-of-five Sophie also streamed a dazzling disco from inside her living room on Instagram on Friday night.

The Murder On The Dancefloor singer performed a medley of disco classics and her own hits while parading around her home.

Her children got in on the act too, with Sonny, 15, Kit, 11, Ray, seven, Jesse, four, and Mickey, dancing (or crawling) around in glittering ensembles.

Sophie and the kids were also joined by her husband, The Feeling bassist Richard , 40, who she married in 2005.

Sophie recently talked to Red magazine in October about feeling ‘mum guilt’ and maintaining her career while raising her children.

When asked the secret to marriage, Sophie said: ‘When I got married, my mum [ex Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis] said, ”Be selfish about your marriage and if you have a choice about what to be doing with your time, pick doing something with Richard”.

‘When you’re a mum, you feel guilty about everything. If we’re going to have a night out, it alleviates that feeling because sometimes you do need to go out and spend time with each other.’
