Billie Eilish urges fans to stay indoors after seeing young people ‘hanging out’ during lockdown

Billie Eilish has urged fans to stay safe and stay indoors after watching many people flout lockdown laws put in place to halt the spread of deadly coronavirus COVID-19.

The young singer is currently adhering to self-quarantine and social distancing measures as the world adjusts to a new way of life during the pandemic, which has so far claimed 88,982 lives across the world.

And speaking to the latest edition of Dazed & Confused, Billie, 18, admits she was left exasperated after seeing many people disregard the obvious dangers presented by mingling in large groups.

She said: ‘I’ve seen a lot of young people out in the world, all over the place, going to the club or going to the beach or just going out and hanging out, and it’s really irresponsible. Please take responsibility for your endurance of this.’

The current lockdown affecting most countries across the developed world curtailed a hugely successful period in Billie’s career.

Just weeks before going into isolation the Los Angeles based singer was celebrating the release of Bond soundtrack No Time To Die, a song that put her into the record books as the youngest star to record a Bond theme in the franchise’s 58-year history.

That triumph followed her enormous success at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in January.

The singer won six gongs on the night while also becoming the first artist in 29-years to win its four major categories – Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

But she admits she felt undeserving of her accolades after seeing so many of her idols included among the nominations.

‘I was surprised, I was dead surprised. And I was embarrassed, dude, I was f**kin’ embarrassed,’ she explained.

‘I was in front of Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey and f**kin’ Beyoncé is nominated, and I win.

‘I was like, Nooooo.. I don’t deserve it. They deserve it.’

Born and raised in LA, Billie admits her meteoric rise to the top poses obvious disadvantages when it comes to revisiting some of the old haunts from her childhood.

‘It used to be I couldn’t walk around the neighbourhood because it wasn’t safe, now I can’t walk around because I’m f**kin’ famous,’ she joked.

Fame does however come with rather more advantages, not least global recognition from her peers and lucrative returns on debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

The record has sold more than 1.3 milion copies in the US alone, but despite its undeniable success Bille admits she never considered the prospect of fame when she was in high school.

‘I never really thought about it,’ she said. ‘I didn’t know anything about an industry or entertainment or whatever. I wanted to work at Jamba Juice. So I didn’t know s**t.’

While her music has turned her into a household name, Billie’s distinctive sense of style has been copied by millions of fans across the globe.

But she insists the decision  to develop her own identity through clothing has nothing to with non-conformity.

‘If I wore a dress to something, I would be hated for it,’she explained. ‘People would be like, “You’ve changed, how dare you do what you’ve always rebelled against?”

‘I’m like, “I’m not rebelling against anything, really.” I can’t stress it enough. I’m just wearing what I wanna wear.’

She added: ‘If there’s a day when I’m like, “You know what, I feel comfortable with my belly right now, and I wanna show my belly,’ I should be allowed to do that.”’
