Kirstie Allsopp continues to defend isolating in her ‘second home’ in Devon

Kirstie Allsopp has insisted the country is not united in the coronavirus lockdown due to financial differences – and admitted she ‘in a better situation than most’.

Speaking to The Guardian, the Location, Location, Location host, 48, responded to claims she was travelling in lockdown, discussed her two homes in Devon and insisted she is staying in her permanent residence.

The TV star shockingly claimed the coronavirus pandemic is not something the country is going through together due to differences in financial situations, as she confessed she is in a better situation than ‘99.9% of the population’.

Last month, Kirstie was forced to hit out at rumours that she was travelling whilst self-isolating with coronavirus symptoms. Taking to Twitter with a furious rant, she lashed out after a story claiming she was residing in a holiday home in Devon.

She was quick to clear up the confusion, revealing that she has two homes in Devon, but she has been staying in her permanent residence with her family.

After a follower tweeted: ‘Why r u in Devon !! Shameful @KirstieMAllsopp’; Kirstie was quick to hit back: ‘Because it is my home.

She echoed this again in her interview with the Guardian and weighed in on the cruel abuse she has faced from trolls and social media users.

She said: ‘I’ve had some of the most unpleasant things said to me on social media that have ever been said to me. [Devon] is our home, 100%’.

Further to criticism over her isolation situation, Kirstie pointed out that her advanced financial situation illustrates how the country is not together in the fight.

After admitting she has ‘a big house and garden’, she said: ‘There’s no point pretending Covid-19 is a great leveller because – look at me – I’m not on a par with other people, shut up…

‘Anyone saying we’re all in this together … we’re bloody not. There are people who are shut up who have acute money worries, as well as being in small spaces.’

Aside from her lockdown comments, last month Kirstie and Piers Morgan vowed to pay off any NHS worker’s parking fines.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, the pair made a pact after learning that hospitals require their staff to pay for parking at work.

Several members of the NHS team have been working overtime amid the coronavirus pandemic, leading to car park fines.

Addressing NHS staff, Piers announced: ‘I will say now, to any health worker during the future of this crisis, however long it lasts, if any of you get a parking ticket at a hospital where you’re working, I will pay it for you. I will pay it.

‘And I will then go to the government and have the battle, you don’t get involved. Send it here to GMB and I will pay the parking ticket, if that’s what it takes.’

Kirstie, who appeared on the show via video chat, added: ‘I will go halves with you on those parking tickets, Piers. I totally get that.’

Her appearance came after she announced she believes she had the coronavirus. The star previously revealed her husband Ben had tested positive and said she’s sure she was too, due to a ‘slight tightness in her chest.’
