Amazon sued by author who claims The Marvelous Mrs Maisel plot copied her 2014 book

Amazon is being sued by an author who claims her book inspired the streaming service’s hit show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, starring Rachel Brosnahan.

Author Jodi Parmley maintains the crux of the series was taken from the pages of her 2014 novel F.I.F.I. Financial Infidelity F**k It: The Mistress of the New Millennium.

She claims in her lawsuit that Amazon Studios stole a number of creative elements from her book, including the plight of the main character, the stand-up comedy, general plot points and character traits.

In the documents obtained by TMZ, Parmley said she wrote her book and then adapted a screenplay from it.

She then made the Hollywood rounds and shopped it to a number of different studios and executives who she says were interested.

Parmley didn’t single out any specific executives she met at Amazon, but she did imply that word got out to them about her book and screenplay.

Now, Parmley is suing for the profits Amazon has made from the show.

The exact figure is not known, but it is likely to be a staggering amount since it has garnered critical and commercial praise during its three seasons to date.
