Former Emmerdale star John Bowe, 70, reveals he ‘nearly died’ from coronavirus as he urges the UK to ‘beware the selfishness of the masses’ and stay home

Former Emmerdale actor John Bowe has revealed her ‘nearly died’ last week after contracting COVI9-19.

The 70-year-old soap star, who had been battling the virus since mid-March, took to Twitter to update his followers on his health, revealing he had a lucky escape.

John – best known for playing Lawrence White on the ITV progamme – urged everyone to ‘beware the fickleness, selfishness and stupidity of the masses’ and obey the government’s orders to stay home in a bid to protect the NHS.

He tweeted: ‘#Coronavirus Sunday observations. I have nearly died twice in my life. Once just last week.

‘The gauze between life and death is extremely thin and oh so easy to pass through.

‘Certainly in one direction. Not sure about the other. As yet.’

John continued his eloquent tirade with a message about rallying behind the government and obeying their orders.

‘Everybody from the top down is doing their utmost. And they’re trying to do it in the best possible way in the best possible order’, he tweeted.

‘We must support them. We must shut up and do as we’re told. Stay home/help the nhs/save lives.’

He went on to plead with people to stop spending time outdoors in the hope of ending the crisis. 

‘Beware the fickleness, selfishness and stupidity of the masses. Come on UK. We’re better than this.

‘Stand firm and strong behind our leaders who, together with us, are trying to find a way through this vicious clinging swamp. #StayHomeSaveLives”

Throughout the last month, John has been keeping his Twitter followers updated about his battle with the virus.

He wrote: ‘#coronavirus #selfisolation Most poorly I’ve been today. Will this headache never stop?

‘Intermittent dry cough like clearing some froth. Very sore throat. Shortness of breath. Very tired. Chest feels like there’s smouldering fire.’
