Ellen Pompeo makes an impassioned plea for fans to stay at home in a new Instagram video as COVID-19 continues to spread

Ellen Pompeo has issued an impassioned plea to her fans to stay at home as the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect millions around the world.

The 50-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star took to Instagram on Thursday with a new video to her 7.3 million followers.

The message was simple: stay at home, as the deadly COVID-19 virus continues to spread throughout the globe.

Stay home: Ellen Pompeo has issued an impassioned plea to her fans to stay at home as the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect millions around the world

‘Hey everybody. I have been asked to make another video to ask everybody to please stay home,’ Pompeo began.

‘I’ve had a lot, too many, phone calls and emails from doctors and nurse friends of mine, even the Governor of New York, his office called me today to ask me to help get the word out to please stay home,’ she added, referring to Governor Andrew Cuomo.

‘Please. The healthcare professionals, the doctors, the nurses, anyone who works in a hospital, they’re at their wits end, and now they’re starting to die,’ Pompeo continued.

‘We’re not doing enough. Just please, everybody stay home,’ she added, before also telling her fans to reach out to those they know who aren’t staying home.

‘If you know someone who is not taking this seriously and isn’t staying home, please talk to them,’ the actress added.

‘Please. We have to stay home. It’s all they’re asking us to do. It’s not that hard. Thanks,’ Pompeo concluded.

While Pompeo is not a doctor herself, she has played one on TV, Dr. Meredith Grey, for 16 seasons on the hit ABC series Grey’s Anatomy.

It was revealed last week that the 16th season will be cut short, after production was suspended on the final episodes due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Filming was suspended just after the 21st episode of the season had wrapped, with four episodes that won’t be filmed.

The Season 16 finale is slated to air on April 9, though showrunner and executive producer Krista Vernoff tweeted last week that fans will still be satisfied.

‘We are disappointed that we don’t get to complete our storytelling this season. The good news? 1621 plays like a satisfying finale!’ Vernoff said.

”It’s not where we planned to end, but it’s beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year,’ she added.

Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its 17th season back in May 2019, though with productions shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, there is no indication when filming may actually take place.
