Little Women viewers notice a water bottle and Thermos in the background of the period film and have a field day with the gaffe on social media

It happened on Downton Abbey and twice on Game Of Thrones. And now last year’s Little Women has been found guilty of the same snafu.

Now that Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-winning adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic is available to stream, eagle-eyed audiences have noticed a major error in a shot from the period film.

In an interior scene featuring actor Timothée Chalamet, both a Thermos and a plastic water bottle are visible on a table behind him.

A TikTok user was reportedly the first one to notice the gaffe, and soon it went viral on Twitter.

One user tweeted an capture of the shot in question, with zoomed-in selections showing the contemporary items sitting in the background of the 1800’s-set film.

‘Please the HydroFlask and water bottle,’ the caption read. ‘I cannot’.

‘Laurie, played by Timothée Chalamet, was ahead of his time in ‘Little Women’ (2019). During the 1860s, he already owned a Hydro Flask and water bottle,’ another tweet quipped.

With all the free time on audiences’ hands as they continue to be homebound due to mounting pressure from the authorities to stay home due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was only a matter of time before the mistake came to light.

Some users made the observation that the oversight was very much akin to a similar misstep made by the creators of Game Of Thrones, who in the final season failed to remove a to-go coffee cup from one scene of the period fantasy series.

The offending item seen when the show aired on HBO was ultimately removed for  later streaming versions.

Downton Abbey also had a snafu. A plastic water bottle could clearly be seen in a promotional picture featuring Robert, Earl of Grantham and Lady Edith Crawley.

Little Women hit theaters in December, and went on to be nominated for six Oscars, including Best Motion Picture of the Year.

The silver screen adaptation ended up winning one of the statuettes, for Best Achievement in Costume Design.

Little Women was not, however, recognized for production design, and this now-viral mistake is perhaps evidence as to why.

The film is now available to stream on Google Play, Amazon, and Vudu, among other platforms.
