Shoppers at the Range are seen continuing to ignore government lockdown orders

As the country continues to grapple with a surge in coronavirus cases, people across the nation have continued to flout the Government lockdown guidelines created to help reduce their exposure to the deadly virus.

Today a Bentley owner decided to set the lockdown rules aside by making a ‘non-essential’ visit to a car wash valeting centre in Windsor.

The scene, which saw staff at the centre gather around the luxury vehicle with their cleaning appliances, comes despite the ‘social distancing’ measures currently in place across the country.

In other parts of the country, customers in Leicestershire were seen descending upon the DIY store The Range in order to purchase an array of ‘essential’ household items from paint to plant pots.

Despite the lockdown in place, shoppers were seen exiting the retail store in the East Midlands carrying a range of items, including pillows, wallpaper, furniture and a picture frame, earlier this morning.

The scenes come just a week after the Prime Minster Boris Johnson announced new UK lockdown rules stopping people from leaving their home except for food, medical treatment, one exercise per day or ‘essential’ work.

Last week Mr Johnson urged people across the country to remain indoors and said they could be met with fines or even arrest if they do not ‘stay at home’.

In an unprecedented move, he ordered the immediate closure of all non-essential shops and announced that gatherings of more than two people would be banned in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Under the strict measures, events such as weddings and baptisms will have to be stopped and funerals can only take place with a small number of immediate family members.

In his address to the country Mr Johnson said: ‘Without a huge national effort to halt the growth of this virus, there will come a moment when no health service in the world could possibly cope; because there won’t be enough ventilators, enough intensive care beds, enough doctors and nurses’.

He added: ‘Though huge numbers are complying – and I thank you all – the time has now come for us all to do more.

‘From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction – you must stay at home.

‘Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households.’

Following the Prime Minister’s draconian lockdown earlier this month some police forces have been vigorously enforcing the government’s rules by establishing roadblocks to determine whether a journey is necessary.

The forces have also been patrolling the streets in an effort to disperse any public gatherings or those who are seen flouting the ‘social distancing’ guidance.

Earlier today, it was revealed that the UK had recorded another 563 coronavirus deaths, taking the nation’s total death toll to 2,352.

Health officials also confirmed that 29,474 people had now tested positive for COVID-19.
