Jack Grealish ‘to be fined £150,000 by Aston Villa’ after late-night party ‘stupidity’

Jack Grealish ‘to be fined £150,000 by Aston Villa’ after admitting he ‘stupidly’ flouted government rules on coronavirus lockdown to attend late-night bash at Ross McCormack’s flat

Jack Grealish ‘will be fined £150,000 by his club Aston Villa’ after admitting to ‘stupidly’ flouting the government’s guidelines on the coronavirus lockdown to attend a late-night party at the flat of ex-team-mate Ross McCormack.

Grealish was pictured after leaving the penthouse apartment, where he crashed his £70,000 Range Rover and damaged two parked cars, and he has since issued a grovelling apology on social media.

Villa announced that he would be fined, with the money going straight to charity, and The Times report that the punishment will be two weeks’ wages, totalling £150,000.

Just hours before heading out to the party, Grealish had posted a video to social media urging his followers to listen to the government’s advice and stay home.

He then ignored his own advice after receiving a phone call from his friend, and has since posted a second video, apologising for his ‘stupidity’.

In the follow-up clip, he said: ‘I just want to do a quick video message to say how deeply embarrassed I am about what has happened this weekend.

‘I know it is a tough time for everyone at the moment, being locked indoors for so long, and I just got a call from a friend asking to go round to his.

‘I stupidly agreed to do so. I don’t want anyone to make the same mistake that I did, so I urge everyone to stay at home and follow the rules and the guidelines of what we have been asked to do.

‘I know that I will be doing that in the near-future now and, like I said, I urge everyone to do the same.

‘I hope everyone can accept my apology and we can move on from this and, hopefully in the near-future, we can be out and enjoying ourselves again, once this has all boiled over.’

Meanwhile, Sportsmail understands that Grealish’s £80million summer move to Manchester United is still expected to go through despite his misdemeanours.

However, United will be monitoring events after police launched an investigation into the incident.

Depending on the outcome, it could yet have implications for Grealish’s move to United and a player who has earned himself a party boy reputation off the pitch.

He has previously been pictured inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as hippy crack, and was reprimanded by Villa in 2015 after a photograph emerged of him sprawled on a Tenerife street following a drinking binge.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has worked hard to instil discipline in his squad since returning to the club 15 months ago and warned earlier this season that any players who didn’t behave themselves could be shown the door.

‘When you’re a footballer you should be proper boring,’ said Solskjaer. ‘You go to bed, you rest, you recover and you get ready for the next game. That’s the culture we need to get to.
