Barclays is ‘pulling the wool over the eyes of shareholders’ with its commitment to being more environmentally friendly, campaigners said. 

The bank has vowed to become ‘net zero’ by 2050, meaning its carbon dioxide emissions will be balanced by absorbing the equivalent amount from the atmosphere.

The charity’s Charlie Kronick called it a ‘headline-baiting net zero proposal’, adding: ‘It’s an attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of shareholders.’
