‘I used to want a boob job’: Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall discusses her body insecurities

She’s a natural beauty and part of one of the biggest selling girl bands in the UK.

Yet in a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Jade Thirlwall revealed she suffered body confidence issues and likened her figure to that of a boy when compared to her Little Mix band mate.

In the interview alongside Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, the singer, 27, opened up on her past desire for a ‘boob job’ as she shared her body hang-ups.

Despite being happy with herself now, Jade told how she used to dislike her physique and believed she wasn’t ‘sexy enough’ to be part of the best-selling girl group.

The Woman Like Me hitmaker said: ‘I [always] felt like a boy next to everyone [else]. I didn’t have a very womanly shape and I’ve got no tits.

‘I’ve kind of grown into myself a little bit now but I used to want a boob job. I [felt] that I wasn’t sexy enough in the band.

‘I still have that complex now when I go on dates. I think, ‘Am I woman enough for someone?’ which is silly.’

And it isn’t just Jade who expressed her body confidence issues in the candid interview as Leigh-Anne, 28, shared her insecurities too.

Speaking to the publication, she too revealed a previous desire to go under the knife as she said: ‘Being in a girl band, the first thing I did was compare myself to the other girls.

‘Jade and I wanted nose jobs. I can’t believe I thought like that. I love my nose. I think it’s age as well – you just have to learn to love yourself more.’

Meanwhile, Jesy’s battle with her body confidence and horrific trolling ordeal was recently portrayed in her award-winning documentary Odd One Out.

Speaking on how she feels about herself now, she explained: ‘Honestly, I didn’t like one thing about myself.

‘I will never lie and say I absolutely love myself now. There are still things I’m working on. [But] I am 100% better than I was before.’

Discussing her fears about making the documentary, she explained: ‘I thought, “If I can’t turn this sh*t experience into a positive one then why did I go through it?” That’s why I wanted to make it.

‘I was sh*tting myself. I thought it would make people troll me more and cause even more of a backlash… It’s been the complete opposite. I put myself in a really vulnerable place, but now I’m glad I did.’

And throughout it all, Jesy, 28, had the support of her loving boyfriend, Love Island star Chis Hughes.

‘He’s just a very positive person’ Jesy said. ‘Chris is in a world of his own. He’s not normal. Everyone who meets him says, “I’ve never met anyone like him.” It’s cute.

‘I think, “I’d love to be in your head.” There [are] no cares or worries. He’s just in Chris land.’

Elsewhere, Perrie, 26, opened up about making long-distance work for her and footballer beau Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Black Magic singer said: ‘My boyfriend only lives in Manchester, but it is like he lives f*cking ages away [Perrie lives in London].

‘As soon as we get a day off, the thought of having to drive to Manchester is an effort. But because I want to make it work and I absolutely adore him, I just grin and bear it.

‘It’s hard. I always say to management if we haven’t got two days off back to back, I won’t see my boyfriend.’

Leigh-Anne added of her relationship with Watford footballer Andre Gray: ‘I feel like I don’t have a normal relationship. I live with my boyfriend and still don’t see him.

‘The team stays in hotels before matches, so if they have two a week I don’t see him. It’s insane. If I had a normal job I’d see him more. It’s got its pros, as it stays fresh for a long time… it’s a thing I have to accept.’

She continued: ‘Every year I have to fight for a week off in June. We work for the whole year; we don’t really get that much time off.’

And while Jade is the only singleton in the group, she says the girls are like her family, and if one should decide to leave the band, then it’s all over.

She exclaimed: ‘It’s all or nothing with us. We are sisters so if one of us left, that would be it!’
