Rita Ora sketches a colourful picture of herself and mum Vera for Mother’s Day

Rita Ora added a personal touch to her mum Vera’s Mother’s Day gifts on Sunday, when she sketched a picture of the pair together to mark the occasion.

The 29-year-old singer took to her Instagram account to share footage of herself drawing the picture, as she explained that the skill wasn’t her strongest point.

Captioning the video, she wrote: ‘Art Class Part 2! Happy Mother’s Day @verora, here’s a tutorial I did for the painting I made for you ❤️.

‘Thanks for all the amazing work you and all the #NHS doctors and nurses and medical staff are doing in this hard time!!! We love you and appreciate you!!! So proud of you!!! ❤️❤️❤️.’

In the footage, the star said of her art piece: ‘This is basically about Mother’s Day. I wanted to draw something for her.

‘As you know, or if you don’t know, I’m not the best drawer in the world, but I am a fan of art. One of my favourites is Cy Twombley, [Jean-Michel] Basquiat, Keith [Haring]… That’s just what I can think of from the top of my head. So this is my version of that.’

Showing her drawing as it came together, the Hot Right Now hitmaker insisted: ‘Guys, this isn’t meant to be about how good you are at drawing, it’s about expressing your creativity…

‘I am no Picasso. I just wanna draw some things so it makes me feel good, honestly. And I just wanted to feel free in this crazy time were in.’

After showing off the finished colourful masterpiece for the camera, she jokingly said: ‘It looks like probably an eight-year-old’s drawing.’

Her Mother’s Day post came days after she shared a series of adorable throwback snaps to celebrate her father’s birthday.

The singer took to her Instagram Stories and posted an adorable photo of herself as a tot sitting on her dad Besnik’s lap.

In another photo, the pair looked in good spirits as they sipped on a large cocktail in a bar with Rita wearing a dark sleeveless top and a sparkling skirt.

A further image showed Rita with her blonde locks styled into a curly ‘do as she put an arm around her father, captioning the shot: ‘Happy birthday dad!’

Family ties: The star is known to be close to her mother Vera, who accompanied her to an exclusive event in London earlier this month

Rita was born in what is now Kosovo, Albania to mother Vera and Besnik, a pub owner.

Her parents moved to London in 1991 when Rita was a baby because of persecution against Alabanians after the disintegration of Yugoslavia.     

The star showed a talent for music early and began performing open mic nights around London, including in her father’s pub.
