‘My children have no respect for me whatsoever’: Fearne Cotton says she’s ‘trying her best’ while homeschooling amid the COVID-19 outbreak

Fearne Cotton has claimed her two children have ‘no respect for her whatsoever’.

The broadcaster, 38, spoke to Zoe Ball, 49, on her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Friday, where she discussed home-schooling son Rex, seven, and daughter Honey, four, after the closure of their schools.  

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Wednesday that extra steps are being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the UK, leaving parents little choice but to educate their children at home.

Fearne, who shares her two children with musician Jesse Wood, 43, described the experience as ‘interesting.’

She told Zoe: ‘I have discovered that my children have no respect for me whatsoever and I’ve got no patience is the other discovery as well! We’re trying our best. We’re trying our best.’

Zoe, who is mum to Woody, 19, and Nelly, 10, with ex-husband DJ Norman Cook, 56, also chimed in on her own experience. 

She said: ‘I think we all, parents and children, and grandparents and all sorts, we are all going to learn an awful lot about ourselves in the coming weeks.’

The radio host laughed, revealing: ‘I’d sit with Nelly doing work and I’m thinking oh my goodness me, this is beyond my capabilities, and she’s 10 years old! So it’s going to be interesting for us all.’

Fearne has shared various snaps to her Instagram Story of how her family are staying occupied at home, including baking vegan cookies. 

Boris Johnson announced the news on Wednesday and It is not yet clear when they will re-open leaving many pupils with a great deal of uncertainty.  

Fearne and Zoe also touched on mental health and anxiety in these ‘testing’ times. 

Fearne has been incredibly vocal in the past with her own mental health struggles, and continues to be open and honest in her Happy Place podcast. 

The BBC presenter shared her thoughts on her to stay positive amid the pandemic.

She said: ‘I think you just have to be really mindful of how you balance out what you’re digesting.

‘So if you are watching the news, the rolling news, and you are reading the newspaper or online every day, then you really need to balance it out with positive stuff.

‘There are lovely books to read and lovely podcasts to listen to, and there’s nothing wrong with having some light relief in these times. 

‘Don’t feel guilty that you’re having a moment out of the angst, that you’re having a moment out of thinking about it all very seriously. 

‘I think it’s really important that we really endeavour to get a little bit of balance when things are so wobbly at the moment.’
