She found fame as Ruth Osborne in Hollyoaks.

And Terri Dwyer, 46, revealed on Friday that she’s suffering with coronavirus symptoms including an ‘horrendous’ cough, admitting: ‘It’s brutal, I’m not gonna lie!’.

The soap star – who previously beat skin cancer – thanked fans on Twitter for their support as she detailed her experience.

She tweeted: ‘Thank you all for your well wishes. You are all keeping me sane in very difficult times.

‘Day 5 with #covid19UK symptoms- it’s brutal, I’m not gonna lie. The cough is horrendous! But my family are still good, so don’t panic – we all react differently. Stay strong you lovely lot.’

Terri previously revealed how her symptoms began, tweeting at the time: ‘Started with a sore throat and flu like aches and pains.

‘The dry, hacking cough has got progressively worse. I know some people have the fever too so many more worse than me.’

On Tuesday, the soap actress revealed that she was in self isolation with her entire family. 

She tweeted: ‘#cough #achesandpains #possiblevirus #covid19UK It’s gonna be difficult to truly know if I have the virus or not since test are only for those hospitalised.

‘I’m grateful not to be as bad as some, gutted my whole family have to #selfisolate for #14days because of me.

Terri endured a battle with skin cancer in 2014, following a love of tanning in her youth.  

The presenter’s mother passed away from lung and ovarian cancer at age 44, when Terri was just 22 years old, before losing her father Tony to stomach cancer in 2003. 

Talking on Lorraine in August 2016, the presenter revealed that a lifelong obsession with tanning left her with huge regrets.

She said: ‘In 2014, I went for a routine check-up and I’d already had some moles taken off, there was another that was causing concern.

‘I was going to Italy and I asked if it could be done when I got back but the doctor said no, it needed to be done now.

‘I didn’t think it was cancer, but it turned out to be stage two. I found out when I got back but luckily, it hadn’t spread.’ 

After having check-ups on what turned out to be several melanomas, the actress confessed the difficulty of her illness was heightened by the fact she had young children.

She explained: ‘I always thought I would be much tougher, but I defy anyone who is a mother to not be a nervous wreck.
