Married At First Sight fans have slammed Elizabeth Sobinoff’s mother Gillian after she grilled Seb Guilhaus about his finances during Tuesday’s episode, accusing the show’s brides of being money-hungry.
Many fans branded Gillian’s line of questioning about Seb’s ability to financially support her 29-year-old daughter as sexist and outdated.
‘I don’t know many women who rely on a man for financial stability these days, Lizzie’s mum must still be living in a bygone era,’ tweeted one fan.

Others criticised Lizzie’s parents, claiming they had ‘failed’ to raise a financially independent woman.
‘If I ever feel the need to ask my daughter’s partners what their financial prospects are I will have failed as their Dad. Save for their health their independence is the one thing I want for them,’ wrote one viewer.

Some fans argued Lizzie should be able to look after herself, and should be ‘offended’ at her parents’ assumption that she can’t.

One furious fan pointed out that many of this year’s brides unfairly expected their husbands to support them financially.
‘So Hayley, Stacey, Kasey [KC] & Lizzie… are all expecting a man to fund their lifestyle… What year is this? What happened to #sistersdoinitforthemselves???’ tweeted one person.

Gillian then told Seb her daughter needed someone with an income who could ‘sustain the life she’s accustomed to’.
