Kate Langbroek reveals her family will be lockdown for 5 WEEKS in Bologna

More than 2,158 people have died from COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Italy. 

Amid the pandemic, Australian radio personality Kate Langbroek, 54, and her family have been in lockdown in Bologna, Italy for the last 12 days. 

On Sunday, Kate revealed that it could be a lot longer before life returns to normal in the Northern Italian city as they could be trapped for five weeks in total.

On Instagram, a follower asked the host: ‘What happens after the 14 day lockdown is over?’

On Sunday, Kate and her husband Peter Allen Lewis left their four children, Lewis, Sunday, Artie and Jan in the safety of their home to go to the supermarket.

‘P and I went to the big supermarket in the morning. Had to queue to get in cause had to stay a meter apart at all times,’ Kate wrote on Instagram. 

‘We weren’t even allowed to shop together so had to yell to each other what we were getting… still, shelves full. People calm.’

She shared a video from the supermarket, showing herself and Peter wearing ski mufflers because they didn’t have any face masks. 

‘Lots of staff!’ Kate said in the video as she panned around the busy supermarket. 

Later at night, the family of six gathered around for a home-cooked meal.

‘For our 12th night in lockdown, we had the most stunning and unexpectedly joyous meal,’ Kate wrote on Instagram. 

‘Calamari (painstakingly crumbed by daughter); langoustines in garlic and parsley butter, jasmine rice (bought a five kilo bag!) and Asiany salad with lime with chili on the side.

‘This enforced family time together has actually been pretty lovely. At times.’

Kate appeared via satellite from ‘lockdown’ in her apartment in Bologna, to give another update on Weekend Today on Saturday. 

She revealed police were patrolling the city to conduct bag checks on those who were out during the region’s ‘total lockdown’.

The mother-of-four said that everything in the city, except for essential services, such as supermarkets, post offices, banks and tobacconists, have been closed. 

In Italy, there has been 27,980 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 2,158 deaths, which accounts for 30 per cent of the global death toll of 7,093.  

Meanwhile, in Australia there have been 450 cases and five deaths.
