Britain will finally be able to welcome in Spring sunshine next week as high pressure brings highs of 16C after another wet and windy weekend

  • Temperatures will rise as high as 15 or 16C in the south on Tuesday and it will feel markedly like spring
  • High pressure will build on Monday bringing a drier and a milder day on Tuesday with it feeling warmer
  • In the North it will be colder with rain returning on Tuesday with temperatures forecast to be lower
  • Rain is set to return for most parts of the country later in the week but the end of March is looking drier

It will feel more like spring in the south in the early part of next week with temperatures rising to 15 or 16C on Tuesday, according to the Met Office. 

Forecasters are predicting a somewhat changeable, wet and windy weekend with rain moving gradually eastwards overnight, mostly light away from the southwest and higher ground. 

It will be windy later in the far north and northeast where coastal gales are likely. After the weekend, though, the forecast looks set to change for the better.

On Saturday rain will continue eastwards, clearing to leave some sunny spells and showers for much of England and Wales. 

However, there will be further rain and strong winds in the northwest during the afternoon. It will feel milder than Friday. 

Temperatures in the south will be average for the time of year or just slightly above.  

After a cold start to Monday, high pressure will build bringing a drier day on and a mild day on Tuesday in the south.

Temperatures will reach 14-16C on Tuesday with some sunny spells and it will feel like spring across the south of the UK.

For the north, rain will return on Tuesday with temperatures forecast to be lower than southern parts of the country.

Wednesday will likely see wet weather moving southeastwards across the UK, with sunshine and showers following behind in the north. 

Forecasters say it will still feel fairly mild in the south but it will be much colder further north, enhanced by strong winds in the far north.

Later in the week rain is set to return for most parts of the country. 

The long range forecast, according to the Met Office website is for conditions to turn markedly drier and calmer towards the end of the month as high pressure becomes dominant over the UK.

This will lead to plenty of sunshine, though clear skies by night will lead to some widespread frosts.
