The Killers announce they’re moving ahead with summer stadium tour despite coronavirus causing event cancellations worldwide

They sent their devoted fanbase into a frenzy by announcing their biggest-ever planned stadium tour of the UK and Ireland over this coming summer.

And it seems The Killers are intent on keeping their word, as the rock band took to their Instagram account on Thursday to address fans amid mounting concerns over the novel Coronavirus.

‘People of Earth, greetings and salutations,’ the band, fronted by Brandon Flowers, began in the post. ‘We’ve been putting this tour together for a long time and we are extremely excited to finally share it with you.

‘We have, of course, been paying close attention to the recent precautionary measures around the world and trust that the coronavirus is expected to follow traditional flu season patterns.

‘We look forward to a great summer of shows. Look after each other – sing the chorus of Mr. Brightside when you wash your hands – and see you this summer!’ they concluded.

The tour in question is in support of the Las Vegas-founded band’s sixth studio album, Imploding the Mirage, which was announced last November and drops in full on May 29th of this year.

Fittingly, perhaps, the album’s lead single is titled Caution, and it was released on Thursday as well.

The ‘traditional flu patterns’ to which the band refers is in keeping with the expectation that, like with the regular flu, new cases of the coronavirus will decrease and the epidemic’s spread will be contained and ultimately eliminated within a few months.

Recent reports from China, where the outbreak began, have supported this theory, however there is still no guarantee as to whether that country has succeeded in full containment, or whether life will be able to promptly return to normal anytime soon.

As announced last fall, The Killers’ new tour is set to start in Falkirk, Scotland, on May 28th, so the band is clearly banking on hopes that the situation will be well under control by then.

The news in November sent Killers fans into meltdown as they flocked to the comments section on their Instagram post to admit they were ‘hyperventilating’ with excitement.

The band will be joined on the tour by Manic Street Preachers, Sam Fender and Blossoms, and will continue until the last show scheduled for June 16th in Dublin, Ireland.
