How Katy Perry was pulled from a ‘secret listening party’ amid coronavirus scare

Katy Perry fled Australia on Friday after a 24-hour ‘quarantine’ in her Sydney hotel.

The pregnant singer, 35, was isolated on Thursday and forced to cancel a ‘secret listening party’ after a coronavirus scare rocked her record label.

It’s believed two people at Universal Music Australia’s headquarters in Woolloomooloo were exposed to the virus and staff were instructed to ‘immediately quarantine’ themselves.

According to Sunshine Coast Daily, Universal made the decision to cancel the private event in Redfern as a safety precaution for Katy and other staff members.

The event was due to host 30 record label staff and various media representatives.

Katy was apparently advised against attending the event just minutes before she was scheduled to leave her hotel.

The Firework singer cancelled all of her remaining press interviews on Thursday, and left the country on Friday.

The two Universal Music Australia staff members were apparently told to ‘quarantine themselves’ until Monday.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Universal Music Australia and Katy Perry’s representatives for comment.

A celebrity photographer, who asked to remain anonymous, told Daily Mail Australia that Katy didn’t leave her hotel all day on Thursday.

Despite this claim, she did upload an Instagram Story post about 4pm (AEST) from Circular Quay that showed the word ‘WASH’ written in the sky.

She captioned it: ‘rn [right now] in Sydney.’

However, it’s unclear if she took the picture herself as the sky-written message ‘WASH HANDS’ was widely photographed by Sydneysiders.

Katy said on Monday that her parents were hesitant to make any physical contact with her during her pregnancy amid growing fears over coronavirus.

Health authorities have advised the public not to shake hands, hug or kiss in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The Wide Awake star told radio show Hughesy & Ed that her mother and father were taking these recommendations very seriously.

She said: ‘My parents fist-bumped me the other day. I was like, “What? Okay. I don’t know… cool.”

‘I came out of them and everything, but I was like, “Sure, yeah.” That’s what watching the news forever will do, I guess!’
