The Third Day trailer: Jude Law is stuck on an island as he plunges deeper into its mysteries

He stars alongside the likes of Naomie Harris in new series The Third Day.

And Jude Law is the face of the first trailer for the HBO series, which delves into the mysteries of an island off the coast of Britain which appears cut off from civilisation.

The new spine-tingling teaser which dropped on Monday for the upcoming six-part series, sees Jude visit the isle and get to know some of its intriguing residents.

The start of the clip shows Jude’s character Sam arriving on the island with a voice in the background which says: ‘Who are you? This person something terrible happened to. Well you’re not that here.’

The voice then continues: ‘When was the last time you really let go Sam? There’s something special about this place.’

A man then confronts Sam and says: ‘Times have been hard, we’ve been through some bad things but helping people is what this place is all about.’

Before Jude replies and says: ‘Thank you, but I can’t stay.’

With a foreshadowing tone, the character responds: ‘Then you need to come with us before that causeway closes and you end up here stuck in paradise forever.’

A snippet of the trailer also includes a look at Naomie Harris’ character Helen. 

Sam then drives to the causeway and finds that it is submerged in water, the trailer takes a chilling turn when Emily Watson’s character a barmaid tells Sam: ‘Well you can’t leave.’

Further scenes show Jude peering at a burning caravan and screaming as he runs through a field, while a voice days: ‘Something appalling happened here and it’s raging inside.

‘Most people are scared of pain, but they don’t know how warm it can be.’ 

The Third Day sees the actor’s character, Sam, drawn to a mysterious island off the British coast where he encounters a new unusual world with the island’s secretive inhabitants.

An official press release gave further insight into the synopsis, it read: ‘Isolated from the mainland, the rituals of the island begin to overwhelm him, and he is confronted by a trauma from his past.

‘As the line between reality and fantasy blurs, Sam finds himself immersed in an emotional quest which puts him at odds with the islanders and begins to threaten their way of life.’ 

Cameron Roach, who is Director of Drama and Sky Studios, Sky UK and Ireland, said there will be a ‘world class cast’.

He revealed: ‘Sky Studios is delighted to be partnering with Plan B, Punchdrunk International and HBO on this exciting series.

‘The Third Day is the result of the intoxicating combined imaginations of Dennis Kelly and Punchdrunk International’s Felix Barrett and have resulted in astonishing scripts.

‘To see them brought to life under the direction of Marc Munden and with Jude Law at the helm of what promises to be a world class cast, is an incredibly exciting prospect.’

There will be six one-hour long episodes, all directed by Utopia and BAFTA-winning director Marc Munden.

The Third Day comes after Sky and HBO’s recent successful mini-series, Chernobyl, which secured a higher IMDb rating than both Game Of Thrones and Breaking Bad.

Filming started for the new show in July with it set to be aired in the UK and US in May later this year. 

The Third Day will be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV for UK viewers, while US show watchers can catch it on HBO.
